Overview
A comprehensive 5 day course for those individuals responsible for their business' fire risk assessment plan to ensure that it is current and incorporates all training needs and fire fighting equipment.
Designed for
Those having a fire safety role in commerce or industry who are likely to be involved in doing fire risk assessments and audits as the Competent Person.
The course is likely to be attractive to persons holding the NEBOSH General Certificate who wish to extend their knowledge of fire safety. Those not wishing to obtain a formal qualification will be awarded a certificate of attendance.

Aim
To equip those having a responsibility for fire safety with the necessary knowledge and understanding to undertake Fire Risk Assessments and general fire safety duties. Successful completion of the course will support delegates wishing to achieve the NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management and / or registration on the Institution of Fire Engineers Register of Safety Practitioners.
Learning Outcomes Following successful completion of this course, delegates will be able to:
Outline the legal framework for the regulation of fire safety
Describe the roles and powers of enforcement agencies and the judiciary
Outline the key elements of a fire safety management system
Explain the purpose of and the procedures for investigating fires in the workplace
Describe the requirements for the statutory reporting of fire-related fatalities and injuries in the workplace
Liaise with specialists and other investigators
Outline the principles behind ignition and spread of fire and explosion in work premises
Identify the causes of fires and explosions in typical work activities
Outline appropriate control measures to minimise fire risks
Advise on the requirements for ensuring that flammable storage facilities meet current regulatory and best practice standards
Identify and minimise risks from arson
Advise on the means of fire protection and prevention of fire spread within buildings
Advise on means of escape
Explain the requirements for ensuring access for the Fire Service is provided and maintained
Outline the methods and systems available to give early warning in case of fire, both for life safety and property protection
Determine the appropriate level and type of detection within premises, based upon the life and process risk therein
Advise on the selection of basic fire extinguishing methods both for life risk and process risk
Advise on the development and maintenance of a fire evacuation procedure
Use a simple fire risk assessment technique to determine risk levels and to assess the adequacy of controls
Advise on improvements to control measures to reduce the risk of fire
Advise on steps to minimise the environmental impact of fire

Classroom based lectures and practical exercise syndicates.
Certification & Awards
A certificate will be awarded subject to successful completion of the programme assessment. Delegates have the option to sit for the NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate for an additional fee (payable to NEBOSH). Venue
The Fire Service College, Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, GL56 0RH. Outreach modules are available in the workplace or at other suitable venues.
